Day 17

Woodhouse returned with a list of ten right-sided players who could possibly be signed on loan. We've scouted two of them before—Dennis Oli and Jimmy Phillips are not good enough. I requested scout reports for the rest. With a bit of luck, one of them might be better than our currently contracted right wingers (including the injured Laurent and Russell.

We took on a new trialist. Javlon Campbell impressed me on Trial Day. He still looks like a star for the future. But I don't think we'll be signing him. Campbell just isn't good enough to push for a first team place this season, and we can't afford to bring anyone on for "the future." It all comes down to their ability right now.

My scouts enthusiastically told me that the potential loan signings should all be "definite purchases" and "important players for the team." I call bullshit. I'm still waiting on a couple of reports, but none of them are good enough to challenge for a place—this season or, I suspect, next. What a let down.

We face Macclesfield Town in a friendly match tomorrow. I can't wait.
