Day 52

The first-team's tactic familiarity levels are finally looking good. Only formation and creative freedom are noticeably lacking now. I'm not sure why they'd be so much less familiar with the formation than other aspects of our tactics, since I never played them in anything other than a 4-4-2 (sometimes with one or both wide midfielders pushed slightly higher up the wing).

I decided this was good enough that I could lower the training time spent on match preparation. I reduced this workload from "Very High" to "Average" (which corresponds to a reduction from 50% to 30% of most players' training schedule) and switched the "Additional Focus Area" from "Teamwork" to "Attacking Movement"—the latter being because the lads are working pretty well together, but still rely a bit too much (for my liking) on the individual talents of OlembĂ© and Shuker to create goal-scoring opportunities.

My hope is that better movement off the ball will lead to more opportunities for both through balls from Power and great team goals made from a dozen or more simple passes.

With a total lack of interest evident in my transfer-listed players, I felt the need to take matters into my own hands. Back when I released Tyrone Thompson and Andrew Hutchinson as the two weakest links in the squad, Jake Sheridan got a reprieve. This time there was no-one standing on the cliff-face before him.

I tried to talk Sheridan into leaving by mutual consent, then, failing that, terminated his contract. It cost the club £18,000 in compensation, but saved us £400 a week in wages—so we probably came out even, given that he had 44 weeks remaining and a few bonuses (plus the cost of treatment if he were to get injured).

The Lincoln fans supported my decision. I wonder if they'll support the next one.
